The Rotary Club of Hendersonville awarded $18,000 grants to K-12 educators in Henderson County this year as part of its long-running Teacher Education Grants program, the club announced.

Club members plan to present a ceremonial oversized check to the School Board on Monday, June 12.

Since the beginning of the program in the 1980s, the Club has awarded more than $600,000 in grants to Henderson County educators. Applications for innovative projects which enhance student’s learning across a broad range of subjects are accepted each spring. K-12 classroom teachers may submit one project for consideration each year. The applications are for individual grants of up to $750.

Projects pitched by teachers in this year’s applications ranged from STEM and traditional academic subjects to social-emotional development, mental wellness and exploratory learning topics. A committee of nine Rotarians reviewed and scored the applications, selecting 35 projects for funding. The committee strived to fully fund many projects, awarding the entire amount requested by the teacher, ensuring the maximum positive impact for students.
