The Flat Rock Village Council on Thursday adopted a FY 2024 budget totaling $2.742 million with a tax rate of 11.9 cents per $100 valuation, down from the previous tax rate of 13.0 cents and 2.4 cents higher than the revenue neutral rate of 9.5 cents.
The new tax rate is estimated to bring in approximately $1.591 million for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
Fire protection comprises the largest budget expenditure, with village-collected taxes funding Blue Ridge, Valley Hill and Green River fire and rescue departments, each of which covers sections of the Village. Total fire protection costs for the Village are increasing 29.8 percent from the previous year, rising to $1.585 million for FY 2024, a percentage increase shared by all 12 rural fire department in Henderson County.
Other areas of expense are village administration and the Park at Flat Rock as well as other Village programs. With the recently completed revaluation of property throughout Henderson County, the assessed value of real property in the Village of Flat Rock increased by 36.4 percent to $1.337 billion.
