Etowah-Horse Shoe department receives $109,000 grant

The Etowah Horse Shoe Fire and Rescue Department received a $109,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan announced Thursday.

The Lake Logan Cecil Volunteer Fire Department in Canton will receive a $163,681 grant. The funds are designated for operations and safety projects within the fire departments.

"Ensuring these local fire departments have adequate supplies and staff training willprovide for safer communities," Hagan said in a news release. "I am committed to making sure our communities in North Carolina have the resources they need to continue thriving."

The Assistance to Firefighters grants are awarded on a competitive basis and can be used to obtain emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
