Bear activity closes Gorges State Park campground

The campground at Gorges State Park in Transylvania County will be temporarily closed beginning Nov. 2 due to black bear activity in the area.

The campground will remain closed for the next two weeks, the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced.

Campground reservations during this time will be cancelled and refunds will be issued to reservation holders. The park remains open to visitors. Park visitors should follow safety measures including not hiking alone, making sure pets are leashed at all times and securely packing out or disposing of all trash and food.
