Hundreds celebrate groundbreaking of Fairmont at the Cedars

The Shipman family, development partners, contractors and others turn dirt marking the start of construction of the Fairmont Heritage Place The Cedars.

More than 200 people packed a large event tent on Church Street to cheer the ceremonial groundbreaking marking the construction start of the Fairmont Heritage Place the Cedars on Friday morning.

Promising trademark Fairmont luxury and world-class amenities, the development signals a transformative presence in the city. The private resort will include a restaurant, spa, fitness center and multiple pools. Units available in two wings of the L-shaped project include 491-531-square-foot studios, 875-square-foot one bedroom units, 1,390-square-foot two bedroom units, 1,628-1,808 three-bedroom units and penthouses of up to 3,635 square feet.

Built on property owned by Fran and Tom Shipman, the development will preserve the historic Cedars while wrapping the condo wings to its east and south. Services and amenities include a "signature Fairmont dorrman" with white glove service, valet and self-parking, 24-hour security, house cars provided by Land Rover of Ashevillew, resort pool deck with fire pits, hot tub and food and beverage service, a residents' lounge with WiFi, a "bark park" for dogs, private board room and meeting rooms and on-site beekeeping as part of Fairmont's sustainability.

Concierge and hospitality service will be able to arrange off-site excursions such as fly fishing, horseback riding, snow skiing, mountain biking and waterfall hikes, as well as such cultural offerings as the Flat Rock Playhouse, brewery and winery tours and farm-to-table dining.
