Local B&B among Southern Living's '20 Friendliest Places in the South'

No stranger to state and regional recognition, the Bed & Breakfast on Tiffany Hill in Mills River, has received another big shoutout. It's among the "20 Friendliest Places in the South," Southern Living says.

The magazine asked readers to share a hospitality experience in their travels that stood out.

"Narrowing down thousands of nominations for hotels, restaurants, stores, small towns, nonprofits, and more was no small feat, but it was very uplifting," Carolanne Griffith Roberts wrote. "As these 20 stand-outs show, Southerners go above and beyond to take care of one another."

What Tiffany Hill guests cited most were the "Breakfasts to Write Home About."

"At the Bed & Breakfast on Tiffany Hill, the morning provisions include a dessert course—that’s our kind of place," Roberts wrote. "'You have the rest of the day to work it off,' reasons owner Selena Einwechter. Bring your appetite: In one sitting you may be served bananas Foster followed by savory or sweet treats like French toast or baked ham with grits plus a “bit of dessert,” which could be anything from lemon pot de crème to pecan pie. Hardly a gulp-and-go spot, it’s more of a linger-and-learn experience as Einwechter outlines the sites in nearby Asheville and the surrounding North Carolina mountains."

Tiffany Hill is at 44 Ray Hill Road, Mills River.

Also making the list was Mast General's original location in Valle Crucis. Each of the 11 locations, including ours in the 500 block of Main Street, "boasts genuine creaking floors, the kid-favorite candy barrels with retro sweets such as caramel bull’s-eyes, kitchen items like cast-iron skillets, and an extensive line of delicious foods including apple butter and peach salsa," the magazine observed.

So did Chai Pani, an award-winning Asheville restaurant that lifts up of Indian street food. Address: 22 Banks Avenue.
