Ed Foundation thanks outgoing board members, welcomes new ones

The Henderson County Education Foundation thanked three outgoing members and welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors last week.

Dan Poeta, Lauren Bollen and Chad Auten, who are rolling off the board, “have left a meaningful mark on our mission and work—and we are better because of them,” the foundation said.
Poeta, owner of Horizon Heat and Air, has been a steadfast leader at the foundation, serving in nearly every capacity—from board vice president and president to donor, committee member and program advocate. His tireless efforts helped grow the Leader in Me initiative from one school to 17 across the county. “Dan’s belief in the potential of our students and educators leaves a lasting legacy we will continue to build on,” the foundation said.
Over the past four years, Lauren Bollen, a speech and language therapist, brought thoughtfulness, creativity and generosity to the board. A dedicated committee member and event planner, she played a key role in the Education Celebration—securing gifts and honors for educators and leaders. Her heart for public education and positive spirit will be missed.
Principal Mills River Elementary, Chad Auten served as an ex-officio
board member for six years, bringing a school leader’s perspective to the table. As a principal, his insights helped align the foundation’s strategies with the real needs of students and staff. “Chad’s calm presence and practical feedback grounded many of our initiatives in what truly matters,” the foundation said. “To Dan, Lauren, and Chad—thank you. Your service, leadership, and commitment to our mission have helped shape who we are today,” Mark Russell, the foundation board president, said.
Coming onto the board are Heather Gray and David Bollen.
A proud native of Hendersonville, Heather Gray graduated from West Henderson High School and discovered her passion for the dental field early on. With over two decades of experience, she has spent the last 20 years helping to grow and lead the practice, currently serving as the chief operating officer of Hendersonville, Mills River and Arden Family Dental. In this role, she is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, fostering a strong team culture and ensuring the offices remain at the forefront of modern dentistry. Outside of work, she is a devoted wife and proud mother of three. She recharges by shopping, enjoying a good book and hitting the open road on a motorcycle.
David Bollen has lived in Hendersonville since 2018 with his wife, Lauren, and their three sons. Their oldest will begin kindergarten this year, and their 1-year-old twins are starting preschool. Dave has spent the last decade working in child and youth development through the camp industry. He currently serves as a grantee success manager with the American Camp Association. Prior to that role, he served as assistant director at Camp Tekoa for four years and program director at Camp Kanuga for five years. Dave brings a unique perspective to HCEF through his background in the camp industry, with a strong focus on out-of-school learning experiences. Dave’s past engagement with HCEF includes volunteering and recently attending a board meeting as part of the United Way’s Rising Leaders program.
“Together, we will continue investing in the whole child and whole school—creating a thriving community for all students across Henderson County,” said Peggy Marshall, executive director of the Henderson County Education Foundation. “As we look ahead, we do so with confidence in the strength and dedication of our board to carry HCEF’s mission forward.”
