City hosts tree giveaway to replace the many Helene destroyed

The city of Hendersonville, in partnership with the city Tree Board, is hosting a Tree Giveaway on Saturday, Oct. 25, to help replenish the community’s tree canopy following losses from Hurricane Helene.

The event will take place at the City Operations Center, 305 Williams St., and is open to city residents from noon to 1 p.m. and non-city residents from 1 to 4 p.m.

Seven-gallon potted trees will be available while supplies last. Tree species include sycamore, pignut hickory, redbud, persimmon, crabapple, overcup oak and willow oak.

“This giveaway is an opportunity to restore what was lost and continue our commitment to maintaining a healthy, vibrant urban forest,” Public Works Director Tom Wooten said. “Many residents saw significant damage to trees during Hurricane Helene, and we’re proud to partner with the Tree Board to help replant and rebuild together.”

Community members are encouraged to arrive early, as quantities are limited. Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and staff will be available to provide planting and care guidance.
