Presented by Henderson County Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Friends of Downtown Hendersonville, the scary street fair takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, on Main Street.
During trick-or-treating from Allen Street to Sixth Avenue, community organizations, local businesses, and contributor booths will line the street, and many downtown merchants will hand out candy and treats at their storefronts.
Treat Street will include a costume contest and Monster Mash dance party by Sound Extreme DJ. A variety of inflatables, kids’ activities and plenty of spooky fun will be provided by Kids Zone sponsor, Biltmore Church. The costume contest and Monster Mash will be in the 100 block in front of the Historic Courthouse between First and Second avenues along Main Street.
Guests are encouraged to don their best costumes for a chance to win exciting prizes in the annual costume contest. Costume contest registration begins at 5 p.m. at the courthouse square. Judging includes an age category for infants to age 3. Children will be judged in categories including 4 to 7, 8 to 11, 12 to 15 and 16-plus. Family/group and pet categories are also included. Judging will start at 6 p.m., with the pet category first to be judged.
The event requires a full street closure of Main Street from Sixth Avenue to Allen Street.
No parking will be allowed after noon for setup and towing is enforced.
The city also asked that visitors please note that Fourth Avenue West from Washington Street to Blythe Street will again be closed to motorists for trick or treating from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. North Justice, North Whitted, Valley and Ehringhaus streets will remain open for travel. All motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant for children and families in the area. For more information, visit downtownhendersonville.org or call 828-233-3205.
