Couple charged with growing pot in basement

Henderson County's sheriff's deputies serving a fugitive warrant from South Carolina charged a Hendersonville couple with a series of felony counts after they found a sophisticated pot growing operation in their basement, the sheriff's department said.

Brian LydaBrian LydaInvestigators charged Brian Edward Lyda, 37, after they went to 112 Merri Drive to serve a fugitive warrant from South Carolina. Officers smelled pot coming from Lyda's residence and obtained a search warrant. Inside detectives found an  elaborate indoor marijuana growing operation in the basement, the sheriff's department said in a news release. They also found  drug paraphernalia and cultivating materials, the release said. Detectives found 84 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and about 4.6 pounds of cultivated marijuana.

 

Detectives also charged Janna Denise Hutto, 33, 112 Merri Drive.

Lyda and Hutto were charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, felony conspiracy, felony possession Janna HuttoJanna Huttoof schedule vi controlled substance, felony conspiracy to traffic marijuana, felony trafficking marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling used for keeping and selling a controlled substance and felony manufacturing a controlled substance.

Hutto remains in the Henderson County jail under $106,500 bond. Brian Edward Lyda has a bond of $220,500.
