Father-son team named Farmers of the Year

Father-and-son farmers who have converted their farm from apple production to berries, asparagus and greenhouse flowers were named Farmers of the Year last weekend during Farm City Day.

Larry Stepp Sr. and Larry Stepp Jr. grow blueberries, blackberries and raspberries on their farm and flowers and hanging baskets for retail sale at Stepp's Plants, 156 Arrowhead Lane, Dana.
Larry Stepp Jr., a third generation farmer, accepted the award on behalf of his father. The Stepp farm is a family operation with Larry Sr.'s wife, Gayle, and Larry Jr.'s wife, Kelly, involved in the nursery and sales jobs.
The Stepps last year won a WNC Agriculture Options grant of $6,000 to plant 1,500 raspberry and 230 blackberry bushes.
