The Henderson County Republican Party has confirmed three U.S. Senate candidates for its March 22 convention, including the two candidates tied for the lead in a poll this week.
"We had originally extended an invitation to all the Senate candidates," party Chairman Glen Englram said. "We got affirmative responses from Ted Alexander and Greg Brannon and fortunately Thom Tillis was able to find some time while he's out this way. He's going to be in Transylvania County that morning. He'll be speaking probably sometime after 11:30."
Scheduled for the luncheon are Alexander, a former Shelby mayor, Greg Brannon, a physician from Cary.
A survey released this week by Public Policy Polling showed Tillis and Brannon tied at 14 percent followed by Heather Grant at 11 percent, Alexander and Mark Harris at 7 percent, ahead of three other candidates.
The convention at the Opportunity House starts at 10 a.m. with an annual business meeting and includes the Lincoln Day luncheon at noon.
