Wind chill could plunge to minus-13

An arctic blast could drive low temperatures down to 8 degrees with a wind chill factor below zero, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters say the low Wednesday night will plunge to 8 degrees and Thursday the high will climb to just 25 despite sun. It will be the most dramatic display of winter weather since Nov. 1, when the area woke to 4-6 inches of snow. The Weather Service issued a windchill advisory warning that northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph could produce wind chill values generally of below zero with some areas seeing values as low as 13 below.

On Wednesday, the high will reach just 29 as the deep freeze grips the area. The low that night will be the lowest of the winter so far. Still sunny, Friday should bring a high of 41 and a relative warmup, with a low overnight of 27.

A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. Conditions can cause frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors make sure you wear a hat and gloves, the NWS warned.
