LOCAL BRIEFS: eBay workshop, author speaks, Young Democrats

The Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store is hosting a seminar on how to sell on eBay on Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store, 1214 Greenville Highway.

Instructor and eBay "power seller" Christine Schuurman will teach the seminar.

The seminar will be limited to 20 individuals and participants will need to make a reservation. To make a reservation, or for more information, call Christine at 828- 388-0693. The cost for the two hour seminar is $20 per person, with half of the proceeds going to Humane Society for the care of the animals in its shelter. The fee must be brought in or mailed in by Thursday, March 26, to Blue Ridge Humane Society, 1214 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Make checks payable to Christine Schuurman and put "eBay Seminar" on the memo line. If your fee is not received by March 26th your seat will be released to someone on the waiting list.
Topics include types of auctions, the best time and day to start an eBay auction, the eBay fees involved in a sale, pricing strategies, how to get paid for an item that sells, what to do if the item doesn't sell and more.

Author to speak at Fountainhead


Author Lin Stepp will talk about the inspiration for her newest novel Makin' Miracles at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at The Fountainhead Bookstore.
Set in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains, Lin Stepp's Makin' Miracles is an inspiring tale that reveals why love and forgiveness are most important just when they seem most impossible.
The event will take place upstairs. (If you are unable to manage stairs, please let the bookstore know and special arrangements can be made.) Tickets are $5 each, and are also a coupon towards any Lin Stepp novel.

Young Democrats to meet at SAB

The Young Democrats of Henderson and Transylvania counties will hold an Open House at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Southern Appalachian Brewery for those interested in joining the group.

“It's time we shake up these counties and let them know that Democrats of all ages are alive and well," Ari Sen, one of the group’s founders, said in a news release.

Young Democrats and representatives from the Henderson County Democratic Party will be on hand at the brewery to answer questions and explain more about the new group. Guests will receive a food voucher from Farm to Fender food truck and one beer or nonalcoholic beverage apiece. Live bluegrass music by Nitrograss starts at 7 p.m.
