A rising senior at North Henderson High School has been named this year's Apple Ambassador.
The North Carolina Apple Festival announced today that Kayce Lynn Lancaster, the daughter of Patrick and Leslie Lancaster, who are the owners of Grandad’s Apples, will represent the Apple Festival throughout the year including many events on Festival Weekend. Kayce will be awarded a $2,000 college scholarship.
Each year, the festival selects its Ambassador from rising high school seniors. Students are required to submit their transcripts, list of activities, provide letters of recommendation and write an essay on the Apple Festival and the importance of the apple industry to this area. The Apple Ambassador is selected based on this information and through an interview process.
The runner-up was Madison Taylor Duran, who attends West Henderson High School. She won a $1,000 college scholarship. Her parents are Luis and Jennifer Duran.

The Apple Ambassador is annually awarded the Evelyn Lutz Hill Memorial Scholarship honoring the longtime secretary of the North Carolina Apple Growers. Hill was serving as the president of the North Carolina Apple Festival when she died in 2004.
