Catie Byrd won All America honors after finishing 25th in the national Division II cross country championship on Nov. 21.
NEW ORLEANS — Queens University senior Catie Byrd, a 2012 graduate of North Henderson High School, won her second straight All America award Saturday as she finished 25th among 227 women runners in the 2015 NCAA Division II National race.
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recognizes with All America honors runners who finish in the top 40 in the men's or the women's national championship. Byrd was the only female runner from the Southeast Region to receive All-America status.
Byrd beat her personal record time in the 6k (3.82 miles) by 55 seconds to finish in 21:06.8 and record highest finish ever at the nationals by a female Queens cross country runner. She isalso the first runner in Queens history to receive the honor twice. She finished 32nd during last year's national championship after losing a shoe at the start of the run on a rain-soaked course.
