A little snow, a lot of cold in store this week

The Hendersonville area should escape a significant snowfall overnight tonight but a deep freeze is on the way with the coldest temperatures in several weeks.

"You’re going to have rain this afternoon with maybe some sleet mixed in," said Scott Krentz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Greer, S.C. "You’re really not going to get snow until 9 or 10 o’clock."

Northern Henderson County is likely to get more snow, though still not a large amount. The forecast is calling for about two-tenths inch. Because of the cold, “some of that’s going to be sticking to the roads,” Krentz added. “Hendersonville is probably going to be OK. Any snow could stick. It’s not going to be significant.”
The bigger show will be in higher elevations to our west, which could see 3-4 inches.
After the snow possibility, the deep freeze really sets in, with lows of 17 Tuesday night and 10 Wednesday night and highs only reaching 32 on Tuesday and 26 on Wednesday.
“It’s polar air mass coming down from Canada,” Krentz added. “You’re going to be a good 10 degrees below normal. Highs and lows are definitely going to be cold.”
There’s little relief in sight. Highs are not expected to climb into the 40s through Sunday.
