Dealer charged in heroin overdose deaths

The Henderson County sheriff’s office has charged a Michigan man with two counts of second degree murder in connection with the heroin deaths of two men in at a Hendersonville hotel in February.

The charges were brought as the result of an investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and state State Bureau of Investigations. The suspect, Randy Lee Nead, of Pullman, was arrested in La Porte, Ind., with the assistance of the Indiana State Police. Nead waived extradition and was transported to the Henderson County Jail, charged with murder and distribution of drugs.

After John Tucker did not show up to work on Feb. 12, he and his friend, Leonard Lefford, were found deceased in a hotel room at the Mountain Inn and Suites. The NC Medical Examiner report shows the deceased’s causes of death as heroin toxicity. Henderson County Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to show that the package containing the heroin had been shipped from Michigan by Nead. He is currently being held in the Henderson County Jail under a $2 million bond.
