Crepes are versatile star of new restaurant

Waitress Hannah Ronningen serves a sweet crepe with mixed fruit and chocolate drizzle.

A new restaurant has opened in the 500 block of North Main Street specializing in crepes for breakfast, lunch and dessert.

Café Crepe Mania opened last month in the space that most recently was the Appalachian Bistro and before that was home to the Green Room.
Chef Ting Ting Liu and Dick vant Hoff found the property and rushed up their plans to start a restaurant. They’ve brightened the inside with vivid colors and made the space roomy and inviting.
Crepe Mania serves breakfast all day and sweet and fruity crepes.
Breakfast items include eggs over easy with vegetables or potato, a veggie scrambler or potato scrambler (all $6.25), made with two eggs and wrapped in a crepe.
The lunch menu includes Hungarian mushroom soup, house salad ($5) or apple beet salad ($9) and lunch crepes with mixed vegetables, broccoli, sweet and sour or potato ($8, with soup or salad). Cheese crepes come with portabello and goat cheese ($11), ham ($9.50) or spinach and mozzarella ($9.50). Dessert crepes include banana Nutella ($6), cinnamon apple ($6), strawberry banana ($8) and mixed fruit ($8).
The café also has bottled beer for $4, including Mother Earth Sister of the Moon IPA, a superior craft IPA from the Kinston brewery; and red and white wine by the glass ($6-10) or bottle ($26-35).
By next spring, Crepe Mania may open at night.
“Right now, we’re just going for breakfast (and lunch) and by early next summer we may add dinner,” Liu said.
