Kids pelt HES teachers with water balloons

Hendersonville Elementary School children got the opportunity to pelt their teachers with water balloons last week after the school met its goal for the Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds fundraiser.

The school kids eagerly chose water balloons from a bucket and waited on the sidewalk as teachers wearing football helmets jogged by. The children could run, swim, play soccer, basketball or other sports to accumulate fitness miles. They recorded 22,012 miles and raised $18,749. The school PTO plans to use the money to buy smart boards — interactive chalk boards — for classrooms that don't yet have them. Below, top fundraisers were awarded medals. See the photo gallery at
