Ben McKay, the former Henderson County sheriff's officer who lost his job when Charlie McDonald was sworn in to succeed Sheriff Rick Davis, has landed a job as a detective with the Buncombe County's Sheriff's Department.
McKay, a veteran Henderson County deputy, was among a handful of deputies who lost their jobs in what McKay's supporters described as a political purge after McDonald took office. The new sheriff has said he can't discuss the reasons for personnel changes.
McKay's supporters mounted a petition drive to support him after his dismissal.
McKay has been assigned to investigate sexual assault cases and to track sex offenders who must comply with laws requiring them to register with law enforcement agencies.
