U.S. marshals seek suspect in first-degree murder

U.S. marshals are seeking a 26-year-old man who is wanted for second-degree murder in Henderson County and considered armed and dangerous.

Davonte Gary Redfern, whose last known address was in Arden, was described as a 5’7”, approximately 130 lbs. with short black hair and brown eyes and a scar on his right shoulder. Redfern  is also wanted in Buncombe County for fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and other charges.

"That's because he is a suspect in a murder and he absconded once he made bond," Henderson County sheriff's Maj. Frank Stout said of the U.S. marshal's search for Redfern. "He was a suspect in and was actually charged in a murder here off of Holbert Road (on Feb. 22). The U.S. marshal has a fugitive task force that is looking for him."

Charged with second-degree murder, Redfern spent 35 days in the Henderson County jail before his release on a $200,000 bond. He is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Tristan Kayne Edney, of Kingswood Drive in Hendersonville. First responders took Edney to Mission hospital, where he died later that day of his injuries. Redfern turned himself in the next day in Buncombe County and was jailed on a $500,000 bond. No information was available on a bond reduction.
