Sandburg home closed as freezing rain is forecast

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site closed at noon on Tuesday as snow began falling.

 

The forecast called for an 80 percent chance of precipitation today, increasing to 90 percent chance tonight of rain and freezing rain, which could leave a layer of black ice on roads.
Freezing rain is possible before noon Wednesday, then rain or freezing rain likely between noon and 1 p.m., changing to rain likely after 1.
During a weather closure at the Carl Sandburg Home, park facilities, including the Sandburg home, goat barn, and trails, are closed to visitor and volunteer use. Updates on conditions, scheduled programs, and re-opening status will be posted on the park webpage at www.nps.gov/carl, on the park’s Facebook page, and via media advisories.
