Oncology nurse models compassionate patient care

Registered nurse Jessica Shuford poses with Daisy Award.

Jessica Shuford, a registered nurse with AdventHealth’s Hematology Oncology Infusion Services Asheville, is latest member of the medical team to win AdventHealth’s DAISY Award.

AdventHealth selected Jessica for the DAISY award based on a nomination from one of her fellow team members.
“Jessica is a wonderful nurse and coworker,” the nomination said. “She goes above and beyond for her patients. She had a patient who was self-conscious about his urostomy bag. She sewed him a cover for it. She has gone to the store for an immunocompromised patient so that he wouldn’t have to go during COVID-19. As a coworker, she is always there to lend a helping hand.”
Shuford exemplifies the AdventHealth Service Standards of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make It Easy and Own It. As the nomination says, Shuford fulfills these standards with every person, every time.
The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that they are forever grateful. They wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
The AdventHealth Nursing Administration presented Shuford with a gift package including a DAISY Award Certificate, DAISY Award Pin and “A Healer’s Touch” Sculpture.
