Lawrence John Hammond, 90

Lawrence John Hammond, 90, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Spring Arbor East. He was a son of the late Milton and Marie Baldwin Hammond. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Milton C. Hammond, and two sisters: Marie H. Hawkins and Grace H. Robbins.

Lawrence was a native New Yorker, and resided and worked there until his retirement with the Lewis Oil Company. He was a loyal and dedicated employee with the company, retiring as their Service Manager after over 35 years of service. He was a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics and served our country during World War II in the United States Air Force as a mechanic as well. He was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, of over 61 years, Shirley. One son, Robert and his wife, Karen, of Litchfield, CT; as well as one daughter, Nancy Hammond Deitz, and her husband, Don, of New Milford, CT. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Etowah Methodist Church with Dr. Reverend David A. Cook, Jr., and Rosaleen Foster officiating.
