Thomas Robert “Tommy” Boys

Thomas Robert “Tommy” Boys, 75, passed away on Thursday, September 1st, 2016 at the Elizabeth House. He was born December 10, 1940 in Henderson County, to Ernest Morley Boys, Sr. and Norma Ellsworth Osborne Boys.

Tommy graduated from Hendersonville High School where he was active in the Key

Club and played in the Hendersonville High School marching band and concert band. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Textile Engineering and his Masters Degree in Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of Kappa Alpha social fraternity, Delta Kappa Phi Fraternity of Science Association and received the Textile Veterans' Association's Honor Award.

Tommy was employed as a textile engineer for several corporations and served in domestic and international sales and marketing capacities including a position as Vice President of the Industrial Fabrics Division of Burlington Industries.

Tommy retired to Hendersonville in 2006 and enjoyed longtime hobbies of golf and fishing and returned to his high school fondness for music, playing in the Hendersonville Community Band and the Clarinet Choir. Tommy was a devoted third generation member of the Hendersonville Kiwanis Club, the First United Methodist Church and Hendersonville Country Club.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Virginia “Mae” Hall Boys; daughter, Mary Brittain Boys White; granddaughter, Amanda Michelle White; brother, Ernest Morley “Skip” Boys, Jr.; sister, Susan Boys Frame, her husband, Charlie; and three nephews and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville officiated by the Reverend Dr. Mark Ralls. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tommy’s name be directed to the Blue Ridge Humane Society, Hendersonville Kiwanis; Four Seasons Compassion for Life Hospice; or to the Hendersonville Community Band, P.O. 194, Hendersonville, NC 28793.
