Donald Lyda, born May 24th, 1929 (age 88) of Hendersonville, NC passed away Saturday June 24th , 2017 after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong native of Henderson County, he was the son of Zachary Wah Lyda and Flora Ethel Barrett. He was preceded in death by all his 10 siblings; Jessie Connor, Jennie Dee Searcy, Francis Grasty, Edna Johnson, Jean Capps, Neil Cagle, Hazel Lyda, Allard Lyda, Talmadge Lyda, and Odell Lyda. He was also preceded in death by one son, Donnie Allen Lyda, and one stepson, Kenneth Morrow.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2 and worked as a professional tree cutter for Murphy's Tree Service , owned by his close friend Chris "Little Boy" Murphy until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, camping, the beach, and spending time with his children and grandchildren most of all.
He is survived by his 3 children; Linda Gail Couch, Ronald Glenn Lyda, and Rhonda Lyda Epright; his daughter in law, Betty Lyda Walden and her husband Jr. Walden; 2 stepsons, Larry Morrow and Alvin Morrow; 7 grandchildren, Pepper McCraw, Anthony Bailey, Rachel Lyda, Jennifer Lyda, Dustin Lyda, Jonathan West, and Kathryn Rani James; 2 great grandchildren, Allen Cason and Chelsea Mazalic, 4 great great grandsons and 4 great great granddaughters, and long time friend Shirley Collins.
A memorial service will be held on June 29th at 2 P.M. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
