William David Harrelson, 87

William David Harrelson, 87, of Hendersonville, passed away at the Elizabeth House Tuesday, December 19, 2017 following a valiant struggle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County, the son of the late Robert Curtis and Loretta Thompson Harrelson.
He was a warm, caring person that could converse with anyone and never met a stranger. Being around family was a highlight for this man called David, Dad or Paw Paw. His great sense of humor, quick wit, silly jokes and stories for every occasion will be greatly missed. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fishing was a hobby that he shared with his grandchildren through the years. Much of his time was spent outdoors doing yardwork, gardening or growing small fruits.
He was a member of Arden Presbyterian Church. His career was in sales and retail, working for a number of years as Belk’s assistant manager. After retiring, he worked at General Electric in Hendersonville.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Lancaster Harrelson; children, Yvetta Nix (Edwin) of Hendersonville, Davon Harrelson (Pam) of Greenville, SC, and Kim Geffers (Randy) of Denver, NC; grandchildren, Brent Nix (Sara), Natalie Van Pelt (Brad), Tyler Nix (Mandy), Julie Worley (Bryan), Justin Harrelson (Taylor), McKenna Geffers and Colson Geffers; great-grandchildren, Kenley, Greer, Katelyn, Liam, Claire, Cyrus, Caleb, Cypress, Keira and Andy; sister, Patsy Johnston; and brother, Bob Harrelson.
A funeral service will be at 2:00pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Davon Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00pm. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
