Rev. Roy Rector, 79

Rev. Roy Rector, 79, heard his Saviour's call to come home on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, after declining health from Polio and Alzheimer's.

He was born in Charlotte on March 7, 1933, to the late Richmond Hobart and Bertha Branson Rector. The Rector family moved to Bat cave when Roy was 7 and he met Carolyn Sumner there. Twelve years later she became his bride and they have served the Lord together for 60 years.

Rev. Rector graduated from Lake Lure High School then attended Fruitland Bible Institute from 1951 to 1953. He served as Pastor of Boiling Springs Baptist Church for 37 years and is now Pastor Emeritus. While there he led in growth of 400 souls and five buildings. Pastor Rector had a burden for missions and over those years the church helped support 65 missionaries and mission projects. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, humbleness and generosity that touched the lives of countless people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Ralph Rector of Hendersonville, one sister Evelyn Carlton of Greensboro and a daughter-in-law Jacque Rector of Fletcher.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn, two sons, Danny and his wife Linda and Jon and his wife Shea all of Hendersonville, one daughter Kathy Trull and husband Mike of Winston Salem, four grandchildren; Kent and his wife Leslie, Julianna, Jonathan and Jordan Rector all of Hendersonville; one sister, Peggy Stroupe of the Laurels, sister-in-law Marinell Rector both of Hendersonville, one brother-in-law, J.K. Sumner of Myrtle Beach and Bat Cave, 4 nephews and 4 nieces and a multitude who were loved like family.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, with visitation from 12:30 to 1:50 prior to the service at Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Rd., Hendersonville, with burial to follow at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, 1291 Fanning Bridge Rd., Fletcher. Pastors Greg Mathis, Cody Sturgill and Cecil Robinson will officiate.
