Mary Virginia Cavanaugh Fendt

Mary Virginia Cavanaugh Fendt of the Brian Center of Hendersonville died where she
had been a resident since 2003.

Mrs. Fendt had formerly lived in Durham where she retired after 30+ years from Duke University Medical Center. The bulk of her employment was in the House Staff Office or Graduate Medical Education at Duke.

Mrs. Fendt was born on June 16, 1930 in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was the second daughter of Alfred J. and Violet R. Cavanaugh. She attended several colleges including Taylor University where she met and later married Paul Fendt.

She is survived by two children: Her son, Fred Fendt and his fiancee, Joanne, of Lake Odessa, Mich., and her daughter, Mary K. and her husband Denny Thompson of Hendersonville. The apple of her eye was her only grandchild, Dillon Thompson. In addition, two nieces and their families in Michigan survive her: Patricia and Fred Duever of Elkton and Jan and Norm Ferguson of St. Joseph. Mary was predeceased by her lifelong friend, Pi Huse in March 2011. Several very dear lifelong friends survive her: Norma Beadle Johnston, Ramona Lucht, and Debbie Harris.

Mary C. Fendt's family would like to thank Dr. Don Culver and Dr. Larry Russell, the Brian Center staff and the Four Season's staff for their expert care and support while she was at the Brian Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville.

Jackson Funeral Service and Crematory in Hendersonville, NC is handling the arrangements.
