Lillian Sanders Talton Coiner, 86

Lillian Sanders Talton Coiner, 86, of Hendersonville died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at her residence.

She was born in Smithfield on Aug. 6, 1927, to the late Ralph Wingate Talton and Clyde Ellington Sanders Talton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis M. Coiner, who died September 4, 2004; and her only sister, Lady Talton Faircloth.

Lillian met a dashing young law student who enjoyed her love of the English language while they both were students at East Carolina College. She married Frank on June 18, 1949 and began teaching school while Frank attended law school. After his graduation in 1952, Frank answered a newspaper advertisement placed by Judge O.B. Crowell for a law clerk in Hendersonville. After moving to Hendersonville, Lillian took on her most cherished role as a fulltime wife and mother.

She was a very active member of St. James Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a leader in the community through her memberships of not only the Junior Welfare Club as well as the Junior Woman's Club. She was a former member of the Hendersonville Cotillion Club and was an active member of the Hendersonville Country Club for over 50 years where Frank served as a past president. After moving to the Bridge at Lake Point Landing in 2010, Lillian continued to enjoy playing bridge as well as playing scrabble with her numerous friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Cristy Coiner O'Herron of Hendersonville, Kimberley Hempen and her husband, Ryan of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Adam Francis O'Herron of Hendersonville, Captain Jacob Hempen, USMC of San Diego, Arthur Hempen of Marietta, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church with Father H. Alexander Viola officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Storehouse, 627 7th Avenue East, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
