John "Gladson" Capps, age 87

John "Gladson" Capps, 87, a lifelong resident of Henderson County, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday June 7, 2014.

He was the son of the late Sam and Pearl Levi Capps. In addition to his parents, Gladson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Bertha Ballard Capps, a brother, George Capps and sister Carrie Capps Maybin.

He is survived by his sons Bennett G. Capps and wife Sheila, and Rev. Bobby Capps, both of Zirconia; daughters Lynn Capps Osteen and husband Curtis of Zirconia and Millis Capps Campbell and husband Rev. Ricky Campbell of Mountain City, Tenn. He had six grandchildren: Stacy Nix, Ben Capps, Michael Capps, Lauren Capps, Jonathan Campbell and Bethany Warden. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Brooke, Kelly, Ella, Thomas, Samuel, Wyatt, McKayla and Hannah.

Gladson was a World War II veteran and served in the Pacific theater. Upon returning home he was a farmer and carpenter. He worked at Camps Greystone and Falling Creek for over 40 years. He was a member and former deacon of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.

A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed, but we know we will see him in heaven one day.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home. A private graveside service will follow on Tuesday.
