Robert Chester, 88

Robert Chester, 88, died peacefully holding the hand of Roma, his wife of 65 years, on June 30, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

He was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Enid, Okla., where he lived until 2012 when he moved to Hendersonville to be near his daughter, Lana, and her husband, Steve Hendershott. His son, Lance Chester and his wife, Susan of N.M., were also with him at his death. He is survived by one grandson, Travis Hendershott, married to Emily, of McLean, Va.

Bob, as he was known to family, worked for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company as a high voltage technician until his retirement. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He sang in the choir, loved movies and participated in many trips and activities at Lake Pointe Landing. He had a lifelong passion for steam engines, railroads and photography.

While living in Hendersonville, he attended Moore's Grove United Methodist Church.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, in the Lake Pointe Landing chapel.
