John Allen Hill, 51

John Allen Hill, 51, of Hendersonville passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Louise Hill and his paternal grandparents, Luther and Ella Jay Hill.

John started his career as a Henderson County Sheriff's Department Dispatcher at age 18 working for Sheriff Ab Jackson. During his career he served the Henderson County community in many capacities: Henderson County Sheriff's Patrol (Corporal), Hendersonville Police Department (Lieutenant), returned to the Henderson County Sheriff's Department (Lieutenant), Valley Hill Fire Department (Chief). He also owned and operated Hill's Lawn Service.

John was a longtime member of the Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616 where he served as Exalted Ruler (3 terms), he also served as West District Vice President and as West District Deputy.

John loved playing golf at Crooked Creek Golf Course where he had many friends.

Surviving are his loving wife Judy Hill; his father and step-mother, Bill and Carol Hill of Hendersonville; his step-daughter, Keri Gambill of the home; his step-son, Kyle Gambill of Hendersonville; three brothers, Al Hill and his wife Beverly of Hendersonville, Dwight Hill and his wife Carol of Hendersonville and Gary Hill and his wife Janie of Brevard; his step-sister, Kristie McBride and her husband Daniel of Lincolnton; lifetime family friends, John and Mary Ann Cagle of Hendersonville; several loving nieces and nephews and many good friends.

A celebration of John's life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Dwayne Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9: 30 am till 11 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel and at other times will be at the home of Bill and Carol Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hendersonville Elks Christmas Charities or the Hendersonville Elks Scholarship Program.
