Miller, the HonorAir founder and 2010 Republican nominee for the 11th Congressional District, had broad support from business owners and others. He raised most of the money in earlier reporting periods. He reported raising $425 in the period from Sept. 24 to Oct. 21. Campaign treasurer Dave Adams reported that the Miller campaign spent $4,672 in the period and a total of $11,655. The campaign had $5,433.48 cash on hand on Oct. 21.
Stephens outpaced incumbent mayor Barbara Volk in fundraising. Volk reported that she raised $1,619 in the latest period and a total of $3,689. She spent $3,000 for the period and $5,139 for the campaign, compared with Stephens' spending of $8,421.

Council candidate Diane Caldwell reported receipts of $200 ($1,312 for the campaign). She spent $344 in the period and $1,085 total, her report said.
Two-term incumbent Jeff Collis did not form a campaign finance committee or report fundraising or expenditures. He said he planned to campaign by distributing fliers and knocking on doors.
Karl Alvin Silvermann, a retiree who lives in Flat Rock, filed an independent expenditure report showing that he had spent $741 — $247 apiece for Volk, Smith and Collis. The report did not say what the expenditure purchased.
Candidates could continue to raise money after the Oct. 21 period. Campaign finance reports through the end of the election are not due until the end of the year.
