Martin "Marty" Katz, a retired deputy with the Broward County Sheriff's Department, plans to file for the Henderson County sheriff's job as a Democrat when filing opens today.
Katz, who lives in Edneyvill, has 40 years of law enforcement experience, starting as a patrolman on the street, to a SWAT team member to detective in criminal investigations, undercover narcotics officer and division manage.
"I have devoted my life to law enforcement and believe my unique background and experiences will serve both the residents of the county and the employees of the Sheriff's department," he said. "I look forward to the upcoming campaign when I can listen to the citizens' concerns as well as discuss how to increase the department's efficiency and effectiveness to make our community safer for everyone."
Katz and his wife of 22 years, Marla, lifelong Democrats, have three adult children. Both Marty and Marla hold black belts in karate, 7th and 4th respectively, and are martial arts instructors. Currently, Katz is a supermarket customer service manager.
