Dixon named chief medical officer of AdventHealth

Byron Dixon on March 4 becomes chief medical officer for AdventHealth Hendersonville, the hospital announced.

Dixon comes to this role with a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to AdventHealth’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ by providing compassionate high-quality health care.

The move is a return to AdventHealth Hendersonville for Dixon. He served as medical director of the Emergency Department from 2018 to 2021. Most recently, he served as the vice president of clinical affairs for Novant Health's greater Charlotte market supporting multiple hospitals. He has also held key leadership and faculty positions at organizations including Wake Forest and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

Dixon is board-certified in emergency medicine and healthcare quality management. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten, Netherland Antilles. He trained in internal medicine at East Tennessee State University and completed his emergency medicine residency at West Virginia University. He received an MBA from the University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dixon is married with two children. To feel whole outside of work, he enjoys fly fishing, spending “device-free” time with his family, attending church and playing chess.
