WHKP boots Rush Limbaugh show

The failure of the keepers of the Rush Limbaugh Show to name a replacement host has earned the show the boot from WHKP.

The country-format station, which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year, will pull the Rush Limbaugh after the April 30 broadcast.

WHKP President and General Manager Art Cooley said in a news release that the failure of the formerly most-listened-to talk show program to name a new permanent host after Limbaugh's death on Feb. 17 caused the break-up. At its peak, the daily Rush Limbaugh show garnered millions of listeners on some 600 radio stations in America.

In its place, beginning on Monday, May 3, from noon to 3 p.m. weekdays, WHKP will showcase the Todd Starnes Show. Todd’s unique down-home humor with interviews featuring major newsmakers, entertainers, artists and leaders is popular with listeners. During the daily show, Todd also covers breaking news.


WHKP will also add the O’Reilly Update weekdays at 11:30 a.m., a 15-minute commentary that “cuts through the anonymous sources and phony stories dominating today’s news cycle and brings Bill O’Reilly’s trademark ‘no spin’ analysis," the station said. Hendersonville’s first broadcast station, WHKP signed on the air on Oct. 24, 1946. It is heard at 1450-AM and 107.7-FM.
