Help us celebrate the Lightning's 10th anniversary

When I told people I was starting an independent family-owned weekly newspaper — 25 years after various sages had written dozens of obituaries of the print news business — most people scoffed. You won’t make it 10 days, 10 weeks or 10 months, they said.

This year, we celebrate 10 years in business. Hendersonvillelightning.com went live on Aug. 24, 2012. We debuted the print product on May 9. I’m writing today to ask you to help us celebrate and to support the Lightning as we embark on our second decade.

I have written hundreds of news stories, columns and editorials over the past 10 years as a reporter, editor and publisher. For our 10th Anniversary Celebration I’m writing for the first time as the chairman and president of Lightning Media Inc. and Hendersonville Lightning LLC, the investor corporation and the operating company for the newspaper and website. We have lots of exciting plans for our birthday in the coming weeks. We’ll revisit some of our greatest hits in news stories, features, profiles, editorials and columns, publish some of our most memorable past front pages and more.
