County poised to fund brewery roads

MILLS RIVER — Henderson County will make its first sizable cash investment in the Sierra Nevada brewery if the Board of Commissioners follows a staff recommendation.

Henderson County and the state granted tax incentives to the California-based company, which has announced that it will invest $107 million to build the brewery on the 90-acre site on the French Broad River near the Asheville Regional Airport.

Commissioners will be asked to appropriate $107,600 — one-tenth of 1 percent of the promised investment — for preconstruction engineering and construction administration for public road improvements in Ferncliff Industrial Park. The qualified responding engineer for the work was William G. Lapsley & Associates, County Engineer Marcus Jones said.
