Sporting goods store taking old K-Mart space

Michigan-based Dunham's Sports will anchor the eastern end of the Blue Ridge Mall with a 65,000-square-foot space devoted to sporting goods.

Contractor Horizon Retail Construction received a building permit for the job valued at $775,000. The sporting goods retailer is demolishing about half of the old K-Mart space as part of the upfit of the building.

The company had grown from 155 stores in 12 states in 2009 to 200 stores in 16 states in 2013. Formerly known as Dunham's Bait & Tackle, Dunham's Athleisure Corp. was founded in 1937 and is based in Waterford, Mich. It sells sports shoes and apparel, fitness products, games and travel products and accessories.
