Sycamore donates $8,000 for off-road bike park upgrades

Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association is holding a work day Saturday at the bike park at Jackson Park.

Sycamore Cycles is contributing $8,000 to add shade structures and more bicycle skills lines to the new and improved Jackson Park Bicycle Park. Sycamore, the county parks and recreation department and volunteers are holding a work day at the park Saturday.

Sycamore was one was one of just 11 bike shops nationwide to receive a Quality Bicycle Products 2019 Community Grant. The QBP Community Grant supports local, bike shop-led initiatives related to increasing ridership among diverse and/or underserved populations, youth ridership, bicycle infrastructure or educational programs.

Sycamore sales manager Shane Dunn said the bike shop is actively working on rebuilding the jump line and has plans for more improvements in the future.

"We are excited to use the Community Grant to bring in more positive improvements to the Jackson Park Bike Park, and make it a much nicer place to ride and spend quality time outdoors," he said. "This grant will jump-start our work at the Bike Park, which provides a great free activity for kids and families throughout the region."

A Bike Park volunteer work day is planned for this Saturday.
