A new shop will occupy former Shelley's space

Crews are working to divide the former Shelley's Jewelry space downtown for two tenants.

A new shop is coming to the old Shelley’s Jewelry space downtown.

Construction is under way now for the Just Ducky Children’s Clothing and Gift Boutique, at 429 N. Main St. Just Ducky owner Mindy Ballard said the business transitioned about 15 years ago from home sales to an Asheville store and online sales. The Hendersonville location would be Just Ducky’s second shop.
“We had representatives that would do house parties,” Ballard said. Buyers would pick out the fabric and styles they wanted. “All the manufacturing was done here in Asheville.” Ducky’s Originals stopped doing the home shows and custom-made clothing in the early 2000s and closed the plant, Ballard said, then opened the brick-and-mortar store on Tunnel Road.
“We do have an online presence as well,” she said. The business no longer designs and makes children’s clothing, carrying several different brand names instead.
Dunlap Construction Co. is dividing the former Shelley’s Jewelry space into two 3,100-square-foot spaces. Ballard said she hopes the renovation will be done by the end of the month for an opening by March.
