Family and friends to remember George Wilkins Jr. in 'memorial roast'

Family members, friends and the Vagabond Nation will gather at 2 p.m. Saturday for a "memorial roast" of George Wilkins Jr., the longtime music director who died Nov. 24 at age 74.

A Flat Rock Playhouse musician and music director for decades, Wilkins was loved and admired by Playhouse singers, actors and musicians that he mentored and led.

 
 
He is survived by his wife, Carol McKendrick Wilkins; brothers Bobby Wilkins and Jimmy Wilkins, and a sister, Virginia Wilkins. His son, Christopher, died in February of this year. George Wilkins' younger sister, Wendy, a beloved Playhouse singer and actor, died of cancer in 1999 in her 30s.
