PISGAH FOREST — Tickets for the 2026 Blue Ghost Firefly Tour at the Cradle of Forestry in America are now on sale, FIND Outdoors announced.
The annual event offers a rare opportunity to witness the display of the elusive blue ghost firefly in its natural habitat.
Blue ghost fireflies are a rare species found in the mountains of Southern Appalachia, known for their distinctive glow and tiny size. While their glow is actually lime green, it usually appears blue because of the Purkinje effect — a visual phenomenon in which colors appear different in low light.
“Every year, our Blue Ghost Firefly Tour provides visitors with a truly magical experience,” said Dallas Martin, FIND Outdoors’ chief education officer. “But the wonder goes deeper than the fireflies themselves; it’s a chance to learn about conservation, appreciate the delicate ecosystems that support them, and discover how we can help protect these extraordinary creatures and public lands for future generations.”
The Cradle of Forestry Blue Ghost Firefly Tour begins with an educational presentation at the outdoor amphitheater, where guests will learn about the world of the blue ghost firefly. Following the presentation, visitors will embark on a hike under the cover of darkness along a paved trail through the forest, at their own pace, where they’ll have the chance to observe the enchanting creatures up close.
To ensure an intimate experience while preserving the delicate ecosystem, each night’s attendance is limited to 150 participants. All ticket purchases are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date. The tours are made possible through support from Headwaters Outfitters and Nature Bound Co.
Event dates are May 9-24 and June 6-8. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the event beginning at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are $55 general admission and $27 for youth ages 4-12. Go here to buy tickets.
