Five young men will be awarded college scholarships from the Dan Barber BSA Troop 601 fund during their Eagle Scout award ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson County Historic Courthouse.
Barber will present the awards to new Eagle scouts Isaac Collie, Patrick Jones, Quentin Stalker, Thomas Elley and Ward Lilly at the Eagle cerremony. A Troop 601 Eagle scout, Dan established the fund at the Community Foundation of Henderson County in 2016 to honor Eagle scouts and encourage Troop 601 members to achieve scouting's highest rank.
“These young men have worked hard to earn their Eagle Scout (only 4% of Scouts earn this designation) and I want to help them realize their potential and what opportunities a college education can afford them,” Barber said. Since its inception, the Dan Barber BSA Troop 601 fund has awarded 7 scholarships totaling $3,500 to local Eagle Scouts assisting them with tuition costs in their post-secondary education.
