Halloween candy drop happens Tuesday ahead of new Treat Street Carnival

Ingles Markets Candy Drop, a donation of over 300 pounds of Halloween candy to the merchants along Main Street, will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the second-floor conference room of City Hall. Downtown merchants should bring a business card in exchange for candy. Supply is limited.

Treat Street Carnival is a rain or shine event occurring on Halloween. The event will require a road closure of Main Street. Main will be closed to traffic from Sixth Avenue to Allen Street starting at 3 p.m. with avenues remaining open to traffic until 4:30 p.m. Main Street will be reopened following event clean up.

A new partnership of the city of Hendersonville Downtown Program, the Henderson County Parks & Recreation Department and Hola Community Arts has led to the new Treat Street Carnival, which will include fan favorites like the costume contest with a new pet category and Sid the Surf’s DJ party. It's expanded to feature a variety of kid friendly inflatables, a Halloween themed outdoor movie and performances in the spirit of Día de Los Muertos.

Trick or Treating with downtown merchants kicks off at 5 p.m. Also featured are the Monster Mash DJ party and the annual Halloween costume contest. Costume contest registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and contest judging is at 6 p.m. starting with the pet contest. Age categories are infants to 3 years old, 4-7, 8-11, 12-15, 16-plus and family/group contestants.

Trick or Treating takes place along Main Street from Allen to Sixth Avenue, while the costume contest and Monster Mash are located at the Historic Courthouse Plaza. Inflatables will be located in the 200 and 300 block while the movie screen is being set up in the 300 block near the French Broad restaurant. Hola Community Arts will be in the 100 block between Allen and First Avenue. For more information visit DowntownHendersonville.org, email info@downtownhendersonville.org or call 828-233-3205.
