Water extension OK moves new Ingles a step closer

A new Ingles on Asheville Highway at Butler Bridge Road took a step toward getting under way when the Hendersonville City Council last week agreed to extend city water to the site.

The council adopted the utility extension agreement with Ingles Fletcher Exchange LLC for the new supermarket on the 10.8-acre site where Butler Bridge Road tees into Asheville Highway.

Black Mountain-based Ingles Markets Inc. applied for a zoning permit for the project in the spring of 2022 and had plans reviewed by Henderson County’s Technical Review Committee in June of that year. Last April, the supermarket chain was still working with the NCDOT on a driveway permit and traffic plans to serve the shopping center. Plans filed with Henderson County showed a total of 117,797 square feet of retail space, including the 88,988-square-foot grocery store,  a 13,084-square-foot Ace Hardware with a 3,200-square-foot garden center,  a 6,125-square-foot convenience store with gas and diesel pumps, a drive-through automatic carwash with vacuums, a 9,600-square-foot space for an unspecified retail use, 291 parking spaces and EV charging stations.
