Friends of Library slashes prices on children's books

Through Dec. 22, a box of children’s books is only $10 at the Friends of the Library bookstore at 1940 Spartanburg Highway.

The Friends of the Henderson County Public Library wants more children to have books for Christmas. It is offering a special discount on children’s books at its new bookstore.

Through Dec. 22, a box of children’s books is only $10. The Friends provides the boxes that are large enough to hold a lot of books.
For more than half a century, the Friends has been raising money to support the library by purchasing books and equipment and sponsoring programs. Until the pandemic, the Friends raised about $100,000 a year, a remarkable achievement for an all-volunteer organization.
Thousands of books, DVDs, and CDs are for sale at its new bookstore. Located at 1940 Spartanburg Highway, the store is open noon-4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The public is welcome and members of the Friends get a 10 percent discount on all purchases. (You can join the Friends at the bookstore). Anyone can donate books, CDs, and DVDs during the hours the store is open.
Everything at the bookstore is in excellent condition. Books are shelved by author or subject so they are easy to find, and they are restocked throughout the week.
The bookstore follows health guidelines. Anyone entering must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Hand sanitizers are available. When the store is busy, shopping is limited to 30 minutes.
The Friends always needs more volunteers. It is a great way to interact with people who love reading and recognize the importance of a vibrant, up-to-date library system to the community.
