Roundtree signals intention to run for mayor of Hendersonville

Debbie Roundtree, a candidate for local office in three election campaigns over the past four years, has filed paperwork to run for mayor of Hendersonville.

Roundtree has run for the Hendersonville City Council in 2017 and 2019 and for the Henderson County Board of Commissioners in 2020. She did not immediately respond to a request from the Lightning for details of her platform.

Other candidates who have filed a campaign committee organization statements are John Olsen, for District 1 in Fletcher; Debbie Roundtree, for mayor of Hendersonville; and Raphael Morales, for Hendersonville City Council. Seats up for election in Hendersonville include mayor and council seats held by Jeff Miller and Jerry Smith Jr.

It's not certain that municipal elections will take place across North Carolina because a delay in census numbers will prevent cities and counties from redistricting in time for the qualifying period for board and mayoral seats. If elections are held this year, the filing period would be July 2-16 for Hendersonville and Laurel Park, and July 26-Aug. 13 for Flat Rock, Fletcher and Mills River.
